MHD Tuning | CAN E85 Flex Fuel Kit for BMW N55, S55, B58 (Gen 1 & Gen 2) & S58

The CAN E85 Flex Fuel Kit provides a complete plug-and-play solution for enabling Flex Fuel functionality on compatible MHD-tuned BMW vehicles. Designed for N55, S55, B58, and S58 applications, the system measures the actual ethanol content of the fuel and communicates that information directly to the vehicle's Engine Computer (DME) through CAN communication.

With real-time ethanol-content data available to the DME, a compatible MHD Flex Fuel tune can automatically adjust engine parameters according to the ethanol percentage currently in the fuel tank.

What Is an ECA?

ECA stands for Ethanol Content Analyzer.

The CAN Ethanol Content Analyzer receives information from the E85 ethanol sensor, converts the sensor data into CAN-compatible information, and sends it to the vehicle's Engine Computer (DME).

This allows the tuning software to identify the actual ethanol concentration in the fuel instead of relying on an estimated blend.

E85 vs. Flex Fuel

E85 is a high-ethanol fuel blend known for its high octane rating and popularity in performance applications.

Flex Fuel, however, is a vehicle and tuning feature rather than a specific fuel.

When properly configured, Flex Fuel allows the Engine Computer to automatically adjust compatible tuning parameters based on the ethanol percentage detected by the ECA. This means the vehicle can adapt to changing ethanol concentrations in the fuel tank without requiring the driver to manually estimate the blend.

MHD Flex Fuel Kit

This kit is designed to enable the MHD Flex Fuel feature on supported BMW applications when used with the appropriate MHD-compatible tune.

The ethanol sensor continuously measures fuel composition, while the CAN ECA delivers that information to the DME for use by the Flex Fuel calibration.

Important: A correct Flex Fuel-compatible tune is required. Operating an engine with an ethanol blend that is not supported by the installed calibration may result in improper engine operation and may cause engine damage.

Vehicle compatibility should be confirmed before installation, particularly when engine, transmission, wiring, or tuning configurations differ from standard applications.

Plug-and-Play Installation

The kit is engineered for straightforward installation with no wire splicing or soldering required on supported plug-and-play applications.

It includes the necessary electrical connectors, ethanol sensor, piggyback harness, and fuel hoses for a clean installation.

The supplied fuel hoses are static-pressure tested to 10 bar / 145 PSI.

For manual-transmission or other applicable configurations, an Open Wire with PosiTap option is available.

Tested Before Shipping

Each Ethanol Content Analyzer unit is tested before shipment to help ensure correct operation.

The complete kit is designed to remove the guesswork from integrating an ethanol-content sensor with supported MHD Flex Fuel applications.
